Racing has encouraged innovation for cars and airplanes. Why not Green Racing Machines?Japanese, European, and American automobile manufacturers have either cars in production or demonstration models that produce lower Carbon Dioxide emissions or none at all. Racing has always been used to test and improve new technologies - it also is a proof of concept for the general public. If we see that it works at high speeds, then we are more apt to buy it. |
How can we change people's attitudes? When automobiles and airplanes were first introduced, racing was a way of showing people that they were safe and exciting. People thought you would die if you went faster than 100 miles per hour! The fear of hydrogen gas also has to be overcome. If cars, SUVs and Trucks use less gasoline, and produce less pollution then we all will gain. |

At the pre-qualifying sessions for the Le Mans 24 Hours, an electric-hybrid version of the GTR-1 the Panoz Q9 - was entered. Unfortunately the car was not among those to line up on the grid for the race itself. First running of the 10-hour Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta. Q9 was entered with the two factory GTR-1s and finished 2nd in the GT1 class the first electric hybrid vehicle to race in an international event. |

March 18, 2002 American Honda Torrance, CA Honda's Dualnote concept, which debuted at last years Tokyo Motor Show, makes its North American debut next week as the Acura DN-X. The rear-engined sedan features a 3.5l DOHC, i-VTEC V6 engine powering the rear wheels, and supplemental electric motors to provide awd and improve fuel economy. |
